How to Delete My Personal Data from Gemini or ChatGPT ?

In the era of AI assistants like Google Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, data privacy is a major concern for many users. If you’ve been using these tools and now want to delete all your personal data, here’s a clear breakdown of what you can (and cannot) do.

Delete My Personal Data from Gemini or ChatGPT 2025

Why Delete Your Data?

Many users worry that the conversations they’ve had with AI could be stored indefinitely or even used to train future models. While both Google and OpenAI offer ways to opt out of training, you may want to go a step further by removing all your activity history and deleting your account data.

Deleting Data from Google Gemini

Google doesn’t allow Gemini users to directly request full deletion of all account data. However, you can delete your Gemini Apps activity manually:

Steps to Delete Gemini Activity:

  1. On your computer, go to gemini.google.com.
  2. Click Settings & Help > Activity.
  3. Choose the type of activity you want to delete:
    • All activity: Select Delete > All time.
    • Recent activity: Delete by last hour or last day.
    • Custom range: Select a specific period of time.
    • Specific day or entry: Delete that particular record.

Important Notes for Gemini Users:

  • Deleting a conversation with a Gem does not delete the Gem itself.
  • Deleting a shared chat doesn’t remove the public link—you need to delete the link separately.
  • For Gemini Live chats, deleting activity also removes related audio, transcripts, and recordings.

Deleting Data from ChatGPT (OpenAI)

OpenAI offers a direct way to delete your account and all associated data.

Steps to Delete ChatGPT Account & Data:

  1. Visit OpenAI Privacy Center.
  2. Click Make a Privacy Request.
  3. Select Yes, I have a ChatGPT account.
  4. Log in if required.
  5. Choose the option to Delete Account.

This will delete your ChatGPT account and remove all personal data associated with it.

What About Past Data Used for Training?

  • Before OpenAI introduced the “Do not train on my content” setting, conversations may have been used for training purposes.
  • Deleting your account removes personal identifiers and usage history but cannot retroactively “untrain” past models.
  • However, future conversations (after opting out or deleting data) will not be used for training.

Final Thoughts

  • For Gemini: You can delete your activity logs, but data retention may still be governed by your Google Workspace admin (if using a work/school account).
  • For ChatGPT: You can fully delete your account and personal data through OpenAI’s Privacy Center.

If you are highly concerned about privacy, make sure to periodically delete your activity and avoid linking sensitive personal data to these platforms.
