How to Turn Off Auto-Dubbed Audio on YouTube Videos and Shorts

If you’ve recently opened a video on YouTube and it suddenly started playing in another language — you’re likely hearing YouTube’s auto-dubbed audio.

YouTube has introduced automatic dubbing for many creators. While it’s helpful for global reach, it can be confusing if you prefer the original voice.

Here’s how to turn it off for both regular videos and Shorts.

What Is Auto-Dubbing on YouTube?

Auto-dubbing allows videos to automatically play in your preferred language using AI-generated voiceovers.

If your account language is set to Hindi, Spanish, or another language, YouTube may automatically switch the audio track — even if the original video was in English.

How to Turn Off Auto-Dubbed Audio on Regular YouTube Videos

Follow these steps:

On Mobile (Android / iPhone)

  1. Open the video.
  2. Tap the ⚙️ Settings icon.
  3. Tap Audio track.
  4. Select the original language (usually labeled as “Original”).
  5. Exit settings.

The video will now play in the creator’s original voice.

On Desktop

  1. Open the video.
  2. Click the ⚙️ Settings icon.
  3. Select Audio track.
  4. Choose Original.

That’s it.

Shorts are slightly different.

If Audio Track Option Is Available:

  1. Tap the three dots (⋮).
  2. Select Audio track.
  3. Switch to original language.

  • Your region

In this case, try:

  • Change device language
  • Log out and log back in
  • Clear app cache

How to Change Your YouTube Language

  2. Tap General
  3. Select App Language
  4. Choose preferred language

Why Is YouTube Auto-Dubbing Videos?

YouTube is expanding AI features to:

  • Help creators reach global audiences
  • Increase watch time
  • Improve accessibility

However, not everyone prefers AI voiceovers.

Can You Disable Auto-Dubbing Permanently?

Currently, YouTube does not provide a universal “Turn Off Auto-Dubbing” toggle for all videos.

You must change audio track manually per video — unless you change your account language settings.

What If Audio Track Option Is Missing?

Some videos:

  • Don’t allow manual switching
  • Force localized audio
  • Have limited track control

In that case:

  • Try opening video in browser
  • Use desktop mode
  • Check if creator uploaded multiple versions
