Let there are X books in the Bookshelf.
Number of Tamil books = 60% of X = 60X /100 = 0.6X
Remaining Books = X – 0.6X = 0.4X
Number English books = 40% of reaming books = 60% of 0.4X = 0.24X.
Hindi Books = X-0.6X -0.24X = 0.16X
Given,
0.24X = 2400
X = 2400/0.24 = 10000
Urdu Books = 0.16X = 0.16*10000 = 1600.

Percentage of those who were not vote = 100-(40+45) = 15%
The difference between those who voted
45% of x – 15% of x = 630
30% of x = 630
x=630*100/30
=2100.

Question 5: he price of rice increases by 32%. A family reduces its consumption so that the expenditure of the rice is up by 10% only. If the total consumption of rice before the price was 10 kg per month, then the consumption of rice per month.
A) 7 1/2
B) 8 1/3
C) 8
D) 6
E) None

Option B
Solution:

Let initial price of sugar = Rs.100 per kg
initial consumption = 10 kg per month
Total expenditure on sugar = 100×10 = Rs.1000 per month
New price of sugar = Rs.132 per kg
Total expenditure = Rs.1100 per month ( 10% increase from Rs.1000)
Now, 1100/132 =25/3
=8 1/3kg.

B) 8%
C) 9%
D) 4%
E) None

-

Option D
Solution:

Weight of A and B are 3x and 5x.
Initial weight before increase = (132*100)/110 = 120
8x = 120. X = 15
Initial weight of A and B are 45 and 75 kg respectively.
New weight of A = 54 so weight of B = 132 – 54 = 78.
So % increase = [(78-75)/75]*100 = 4 % .

Q.7.Half of 1 percent written as decimal is :

(A) 0.005                              (B) 0.05                 (C) 0.02                 (D) 2

1 2 % = ( 1 2 × 1 100 ) = 0.5 100 = 0.005 .

Question 8 : If 15% of 40 is greater than 25% of a number by 2, then the number is :

(A) 12                    (B) 16                     (C) 24                     (D) 32

15 %   o f   40 − 25 %   o f   x = 2 ⟺ 25 100 x = ( 15 100 × 40 ) − 2

Question 9 :What is the value of X in 130% of X = 40% of 845 ?

a) 123 b) 239 c) 142 d) none of these

Answer : d) none of these

Solution :

Given equation is 130% of X = 40% of 845

X x 130/100 = 40×845/100
130X = 40×845
X = 40×845/135 = 250.37

Hence the answer is option d.

Question 11 : The population of a town in 1991 was 175760. If it increases by 4% annually then what it was 1988?

a) 196520 b) 251100 c) 200950 d) 156250

d) 156250

Solution :

Population of the district in 1991 = 175760
We have to find the population in 1988. (3 years back).
Increasing rate = R = 4%

By using the formula (2),
Population = 175760/(1 + 4/100)3 = 175760 / (104/100)3
= 175760 x 25/26 x 25/26 x 25/26
= 10 x 25 x 25 x 25 = 156250

Hence the required answer is option d.
